That would be one plausible explanation, based on the data. The transient nature of the phenomena seems to indicate that we are dealing with something that is truly mobile & somewhat detectable, yet can operate unseen.

I believe the phenomenon pre-dates any curse. The curse may amplify some of the phenomena related to consciousness...tough to say at this point.
