Yeah, the system had very clearly defined subcomponents, which, to
@wmhilton's point, required careful design and an eye for how the simple parts fit together simply. -
This has been my experience exactly. Think through what must happen. Think through appropriate ways to break that down with an eye towards building those pieces back up. Understanding is essential for reliability.

The hiccup was caused by an unexpected dramatic usage increase both in terms of number of videos and video resolution. That, coupled with a bug where I mixed up two similar timeout configuration flags. Swapping the two values fixed the issue, but required some intense debugging.
