You’re misinterpreting what the CDC have said. We had the same situation in the U.K.. pre-existing conditions are things that >60% of Americans live with, they are not terminal diseases. Also in many people Covid causes more than one pathology so you may have these on the cert.

This is not entirely true. That statistic, which is often presented as high as 90% (people with pre-existing conditions) includes any illness that lasts for more than a month, no matter how mild. Tooth pain, astigmatism, foot fungus - all irrespective of mortality risk
