Today Microsoft announced an ambitious goal and a detailed plan to become carbon negative by 2030, remove our historical carbon emissions by 2050, and launch a $1B climate innovation fund.https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2020/01/16/microsoft-will-be-carbon-negative-by-2030/ …

That's great - but it'd also be great if you WEREN'T partnering with oil companies to more efficiently pull oil out of the ground. That oil needs to stay where it is, and only economics will keep it there. It's not enough to be good; stop helping bad guys do bad things.

We need fossil fuels to transition in to a carbon neutral state. Having an "Us vs. Them" mentality towards energy doesn't do anything to fix the problem, it simply creates a rift. Oil and gas is required for many more things than just energy generation.

Apparently $300 billion is enough to reverse climate change. Surely a company with a $1 trillion market cap can afford a lot more than $1 billion. We expect more from Microsoft this is a decent start

Really pleased that carbon negative has entered the thinking, rather than neutral

These ideas of carbon negative, complete metal recycling, less (to none) oil use; should be first in companies goals as @Apple @tim_cook which have took important steps in recent years and should be more ambitious May be this would be ideal reason for a Microsoft/Apple alliance

Better idea. We tax Microsoft as they should be and use that money as a society to fight climate change
