An API should never give approximated results, that's an anti-pattern. If YouTube wants to show short numbers on their UI, then do it client/server side like the Android application does since forever. If they want to put approx. numbers in API results bc it'll follow their (...)

Showng abbreviated counts on YouTube's UI makes sense as it's easier to read and YouTube counts aren't live-updating. But services like SocialBlade (:p) do need accurate numbers. Honestly abbreviated count makes sense for an UI, but it useless as pure data
