Classy tributes for a classy guy. When I went to work at the BBC in Belfast in 1985 Bill was already one of the big boys.

Here’s a piece I did about China’s agreement with Iran. Plenty of signs now that the Chinese see influence in the Middle East as an important part of becoming a global power and making this century theirs ⁦⁩ ⁦

Another great piece from ⁦⁩. Unsurpassed feel for individuals, moments and history that make cricket what it is.

Such an incredibly important read. Sitting in Western capitals, lauding anti imperial forces with little regard for cost on lives of people in region has had a devastating impact. It’s fine to be up in arms abt US airstrikes in Syria but what abt damage done by Russia strikes?

I don’t understand why rugby players are socially distant when they sing their anthems. And then play rugby.

I was an 11 year old City fan. Unfortunately it was a school night. Great piece. Best line from "What a night it was. I think the players ended up at the Electricity Club in Pontcanna. Real Madrid had gone home."

Quite a moment. Iraqi Christians have suffered terribly since the US invasion of 2003, targetted by extremist jihadists, Al Qaeda and its outgrowth, ISIS. Many Christians were killed and once-thriving Christian communities dispersed as hundreds of thousands fled abroad.
