In case you don't know, being poor sucks Wondering if you're going to eat or have somewhere to sleep is awful Praying the light company didn't turn off your lights is stressful Deciding between paying rent or eating is horrible. There is nothing good about growing up like this.

Despite what folks believe because it makes them feel better about themselves, there is no piety in poverty

Sadly, folks who aren't followers of mine don't understand the context of this tweet. Which is below. I would also remind you all that just because you haven't experienced something it doesn't mean we shouldn't discount others experiences.pic.twitter.com/Cz2RBZDKHE

Weirdos. I wish none of my childhood on anyone. The trauma of poverty still shows up for me in ways that make me cringe.

Same. I was foster care and grew up homeless. I'd never wish my childhood on anyone.

What’s worse are the people who “made it out” and are now parents and in a position to provide better for their children than they had but believe they need to “show their kids the struggle.”
Shouldn’t the goal be to get better with each generation!? -
There are much better ways to teach your children how to be grateful, empathetic and compassionate. Also providing a little more than basic needs isn’t going to “spoil” them.
