TWITTER: Humans do not NEED to eat carbs to survive! TRUTH: The only way our planet can produce enough calories to sustain over 7 billion people is via carbs, as they produce more calories per acre than fat/protein. So, in a very real sense, we *do* need carbs to survive.pic.twitter.com/wT5O57YPHi

This is of course before we consider that one might like to experience more out of life than to just ‘survive’.

Plus, there’s no actual reason to give up carbs. You can eat them and actually be healthy believe it or not! Mmmmm tasty tasty carbs.

The problem is we eat too many carbs a day in our western diet so producing too much insulin which is the real problem!

I don’t think that’s the full picture. 19th century Irish famously ate an average of 13 lbs of potatoes a day & were known to very healthy compared to contemporaries across Europe. Many cultures eat large amounts of carbs & are healthy.

If you said *eating carbs (especially refined) frequently every day* as apposed to sticking to 2–3 meals then I’d be inclined to agree.

There is historical evidence that we lost 4 inches in height when we became farmers and grain eaters some 10k years ago. Therein is the problem we need grain to support our population but it is not the best food for us especially the quantity we eat these days

We can produce proteins and fats directly from single cells organisms, with even fewer acres:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6S4E1FWtHNQ …

Between yeast-like organisms and invitro meat I'm all-in on lab-derived agriculture. It lets you achieve unbelievable population densities with minimal footprint, and opens up lots of new 'worlds' to settle (sea floor, subterranean, arctic, free space etc.)

In this case we are talking about single celled bacterial proteins. Mycoprotein (fungus) is also a thing and you can get it in grocery stores right now (Quorn). The Aztecs cultivated Cyanobacteria as a cheap foodsource as well.

It's not rocket science. If ppl just bothered to look up what carbs and protein do, they would easily understand how to assess their personal requirements, & adjust their diet balance accordingly.

And here's my method--something that is doable for a lifetime even by those who love their bit of cake now and then! https://www.delightfulrepast.com/2016/09/sugar-toxin-or-treat.html …pic.twitter.com/M30E6vxWFF
