The Cambridge Public Library canceled its annual Summer Reading Kick-Off, which was to feature Junot Diaz, as the author faces accusations of mistreating women. http://bos.gl/VxKbp9v pic.twitter.com/FgSGAzbcT7

Wait. So by cancelling it you send the message that everything has to orbit around a male writer. You've got PLENTY of extraordinary other writers, including women, who can pull this off! Don't cancel; it's the easy way out.

Wait, wait, @cambridgepl. What about instead turning this into an opportunity for discussion and learning, and featuring a panel of *women*writers? There are plenty in Cambridge. Email me and I’d be happy to help recruit. (I don’t even have to be one of them.) https://twitter.com/bostonglobe/status/994347562927783936 …

There are many other writers who do not assault, humuiliate and abuse people who would be delighted to be featured in this program. Cutting off your nose to spite your face actually exacerbates and accentuates the problem of violent misogynists by not offering alternatives.

Aren’t there like thousands of other amazing authors who can rise to the challenge of a last minute appointment to the festival?

It's pretty amazing that Junot Diaz is the only person in America who has written a book and knows how to get to the Boston Public Library.

Hemingway was mean to adult women, I therefore demand the removal of his works from libraries. Same thing with Steinbeck. Where does this stop as regards adult women?
