This is a slippery slope.

are we to erase the names of everyone who ever did anything wrong, however influential they were to their field? are we changing the name of Ford cars now, because of Henry Ford's Nazi tendencies? Do we forget about MLK because he cheated on his wife and had links to communists?

It will ALWAYS be Yawkey Way no matter what it's changed to.

People will complain that this is an overreaction, but smalls steps like this work towards denormalizing racism. Proud of the Red Sox and others involved for acting on this.
-
Could you explain how it’s denormalizing racism though? Cause I really don’t see the point of it
-
Sure. There are many in the black community that know about the history of Mr. Yawkey and have to forever feel comfortable and inferior in Boston while roaming an area glorifying a known racist. (1/2)
-
We can’t change history, but we can take proactive steps to expose those bad people in history and not allow them to be glorified in a way that overshadows all the bad they also stood for.

Allegations are merely assertions until they can be proven. I guess all the good Mr. Yawkey did for Boston can be undone by assertions.
-
They aren’t allegations. Yawkey was a well known racist. Sox were the last team to integrate. And after the Adam Jones incident last summer this is a good first step.

Erase a street name and poof! racism no longer exsists. If only it were that simple. Hey! While we are at it, there are several government buildings, bridges, roads names after racist Dixiecrats /Democrats of our past. Any chance we can get those names removed too? Or...?
-
Maybe start with KKK member and Democratic Senator, Robert C Byrd Bridge located in W Virginia.

This is the stupidest decision EVER made!!! I want Everyone with the name Robert Lee to change to change their names too. Or get rid of Disney World, and let's call it Massachusetts world. Ugh, please reverse this stupidity

How about renaming it "Pumpsie Green Way" after the first African American Red Sox player?

I mean Ortiz Lane would've been nice too

-
So you want him to have two roads named after him around the ballpark? Lol he already has one, but I'm all for it.
