Why is this even an article? What year are we in?

20 years ago my ex husband took my last name. I didn't tell anyone they just announced the new Mr and Mrs my last name. His last name was DOUCHE but missing 1 vowel. My kids still thank him.

You get in your time machine, travel back to 1970 and ask someone there.

There is this thing called an at-home card you could send with invitations, and it does exactly that. It gives the proper form of address for the couple along with the address of their home together. https://www.theknot.com/content/amphtml/at-home-wedding-invitation-cards …

Also, we did send at-home cards, and have been married for eighteen years, and I have just one relative who gets it wrong all the time.

Um... you mind your own business? Honestly, this whole question seems like a passive-aggressive dig at her daughter for "failing" to follow "convention." (Read: She doesn't want advice; she wants sympathy.)

Why would this come up at the wedding? Also is this 1956?

“My daughter is keeping her name”. Say that over and over and eventually someone will believe you.

I don't think anyone really cares. If they do, they need a hobby.

Without even reading this column, I feel like the best advice would be: you DON'T tell them a damn thing! It's neither your marriage nor their business, so it's not yours to worry about in either case.

This is 2018. By this point in time I feel like a better question would be : Why is ANY woman taking her husband's name?
-
I took my husband's last name because I hated my maiden name, and his was as good as any, lol.
-
Well, there are a few names that are difficult to love!
-
LOL, yep, I didn't even keep it as my middle name.

Why isn't her husband taking her name? Why should anyone take another person's name? And why is this even an issue?
-
When a couple of friends of mine got married they did rock paper scissors at the wedding too see who takes who's name. He took hers
