Serena Williams says her US Open penalty is sexist—and male tennis players agree. Don't believe them? Watch. https://bit.ly/2QpMbui?s_campaign=bostonglobe:nativevideo:twitter … by @reneeygrahampic.twitter.com/fUMgO4ONlD

What is this pile of .... none of these examples show a player calling the umpire names. In tennis you can argue with an official. It’s within your rights. But you cannot directly attack him. That is unfortunately what she did. She called him a liar and a cheater.

The video is misleading because the game was taken from Williams because the verbal abuse was the third code violation. So unless, e.g., Federer was fined but not taken a game for his third code violation, it’s not comparable.

Personally, I don’t believe bad treatment from anyone had anything to do with it. She’s an aggressive woman. In appearance and demeanor. Two bulls can’t occupy the same pen. She found her match and that should be the end of it.

How is it sexist? It was 2 woman playing. How is it racist? A Portuguese umpire called a penalty on an African American that she deserved and a Japanese woman won. How is this a story? She is a sore loser

Same referee? In any case, male and female players should shut up during the game, and go to authorities afterwards for complaints

Calls are discretionary. They have context. It's like a technical foul in basketball. Perfectly balanced enforcement is too high a bar. Many women have misbehaved with no penalty, & many men have had points/games taken away and even been disqualified. Why not post those videos?

Also... which men agree with her? I saw some very diplomatic responses to her very unsportsmanlike behavior. She should just take responsibility for her actions.

Serena Williams is angry because Serena Williams lost against an opponent who was playing better than her. The umpire made 3 correct calls against her. Her coach WAS coaching from his seat. Blame your coach. Don’t blame the umpire for making the right call.
