"The development of schizophrenia or psychoses in adolescents ". LOfuckingL. Stopped reading after that BS. Asking doctors and "substance abuse specialists" about
#cannabis is like asking Trump's opinion on dieting. Clueless.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@felicejfreyer please leave the#cannabis news to@Dan_Adams86 or someone with a clue about this plant. Does@BostonGlobe use the word booze for alcohol, or dope for opioids? Doubt it. Using the word "pot" shows bias and ignorance. -
Uh, I use "pot" in almost all my stories, and also used "booze" occasionally when I covered alcohol. As long as the subject is being treated seriously in general I don't see a big problem. It's hard to read a story that repeats once word ad nauseam.
-
As for marijuana vs cannabis, some people (I heard this from Sonia Espinosa at
@MACONSUMERS) feel strongly that using "cannabis" exclusively is whitewashing the cultural history of "marijuana," even though "marijuana" was previously used with racist intent. -
My rule is to use marijuana or cannabis in the medical context. I mix in "pot" when talking about adult-use. I very rarely use "weed" or other synonyms. I also avoid puns, and never use stereotypes to refer to marijuana patients/consumers.
-
That sounds like a reasonable approach. I’ve heard some people object to “marijuana” because of its racist history but I feel like the word is too widely used to toss out. “Cannabis” sounds a bit more medical.
-
Exactly. Almost no one wields "marijuana" as a slur ala the 1930s, and I don't think many people HEAR it that way, either. In other words, I don't believe it's an inherently racist word. Also, "marijuana" actually predates its racist co-option. I think it has since been reclaimed

ask my 19 year old daughter who is suffering with cancer if its "safe". She's on every nasty drug under the sun and "pot" is by far the ONLY thing that gives her immediate relief and comfort. There is no close second. Without it she would be suffering...

This is a very good summary of the science. One quibble: The use of the term "cannabis-use disorder." It's ambiguous and like "addiction" needs definition. The fact that it comes from NIDA - which has blocked meaningful cannabis research for years - only makes it worse.

Over 7 million kids and 80 million Americans are on antidepressants, anti anxieties, antipsychotics, and stimulants. Highly addictive, dangerous side effects.
