Drug users have the right to use but they DO NOT have the right to expect their employers to indulge with them. It's called risk management.

What "risks" are you referring to exactly? Cannabis is non addictive and depending on the strain can be more motivating and uplifting than a cup of coffee.
-
Need an example of the business risk? I found one. A operator smokes marijuana before operating high speed train. What could possibly go wrong? "Caltrain operator smoked pot before near-miss incident"http://abc7news.com/archive/8811825/ …
-
We're not referring to people using cannabis while at work. We are talking about employers firing or not hiring people who use cannabis outside the workplace. Also, how is that any different than a train operator drinking a bottle of Scotch before work?
-
Maybe you don't understand how it works. There is no test to show that someone is under the influence. All they can test is that you've used cannabis within the past days-months (everyone's body holds THC for different lengths of time). So even a one time weekend user would fail.
-
You are free to do as you please. If an employer does not want drug users in the workplace, that employer is totally and completely within their legal right. Any one who works a such a company should know UPFRONT that drug use is a violation of policy. Simple as that.
-
Again, how does this different from alcohol use? Alcohol is more dangerous to the person consuming it and to the people around them.

Because employers are under NO legal or moral obligation to employ drug users. Just because it is "legal" to use marijuana doesn't make it a good business or professional decision.
-
Yet alcohol is a far more dangerous drug than cannabis and no employees test for that? Hell, a lot of employers even provide alcohol at office parties...
-
Yes, faxing while under the influence is a major workplace issue.
-
What are you talking about?
