(3) I was checked into the hospital on a 5150, involuntary hold. It means I can't own a gun for 5 yrs. I told the psych nurse, "That's ok, I don't want a gun. I just want help." He smiled. I was in the hospital for almost 1 month. It saved my life.

(12) They can't. People with broken brains need the help of others who are stable to get them help immediately.

(11) The discussion about mental health needs to change. When someone is having a heart attack, we call 9-1-1 and get them help, we don't expect them to get help for themselves. Ditto if someone breaks a leg. But when people have broken brains they are to fend for themselves?

(10) I am from a middle-class to upper-class, educated family. They never talked about mental illness in our various relatives, mainly Clinical Depression. Nobody got help. They suffered. No one got me help. I could have died.

(9) I told the veteran, "No, you need help." I kicked it into gear and contacted the https://www.veteranscrisisline.net/About/VeteranSuicide.aspx …
#veteranscrisisline , the police dept., and a case manager. Someone threw me a lifeline when I could not "swim" out of mental illness. It is my honor to save others.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

(8) Since my hospitalization this year, I have gotten seven men and women into mental health care, by gently and respectfully talking to them. Two weeks ago a double amputee veteran rolled up to me and told me he wanted to blow his brains out and would I help him?

(7) Since my hospitalization this year, I have joined
@NAMICommunicate and met other people with mental illnesses/wonky brain chemistry. It can be both genetic and environmental. That is 100% true in my case.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

(6) Since my hospitalization, the friend who told me to go told me her story: She had almost walked into the ocean in TX to commit suicide 20 years ago. She had to be hospitalized. On meds, her life is good. She knew the dark place I was in was the one she had been in.

(5) Since getting out of the hospital, my medication has more than doubled. It has pulled me out of that pit. I was also treated for an Anxiety Disorder. There are 800 chemicals that communicate between the brain cells my doc said. I don't have 2. Thus meds.

(4) I had daily appts with the psychiatrist, daily private therapy, twice daily group therapy, exercise class, and art/creative class. I put my head down in group therapy one day, in emotional pain, that all of these beautiful men and women, from all walks of life, wanted to die.

(2) I didn't want to hurt others, but "yes", I did want to hurt myself. Hospital: "Do you have 'A Plan'." Me: "Yes. To drive to Yosemite, walk down by the river, take all of my medication, sit on a blanket, and never wake up. Let the bears find me."

A friend in TX. told me in Calif. this year to drive myself to the hospital & to check myself in when I couldn't stop crying. To text her when I got to the hospital. I did. Embarassed to ask for help, I continued to cry. I answered the doctors' & nurses questions. (1)
