Imagine if the whites announced they were having a whites-only graduation at Harvard.

That's your concern here? Not the threat of violence but your hurt feelings?
-
I proposed a simple “imagine if” to ask what folks would think. That’s all. Calm down.

Why is there a separate commencement at Harvard University for black people?
-
It is in addition to the official commencementpic.twitter.com/WkwDRbPCnp
-
Some serious mental gymnastics there...
-
Hmmmm, just seemed like a celebration of achievement to me but I guess we all see the world differently. Bottom line, it doesn’t take away from anything or anybody far as I can tell so I don’t see a problem
-
You’re right... “Black Commencement” definitely doesn’t take anything away from white people, Asian people or Native American people.

I just don’t see your point. Anyone is welcome to attend regardless of race, it’s organized by the students & I’m pretty sure it doesn’t even get school funding. Diplomas aren’t even handed out. It’s just a celebration of achievement. How is that wrong?
-
The name “Black Commencement” itself is exclusionary even though (wink, wink) all people are welcome. Maybe it’s tradition? Nope. It just appeared in 2017.

I said it was commonplace at many other universities.

Wow. What a despicable person. To do this at all, but especially directed at an event that should just be about honoring accomplishments and celebrating achievements. And people like to try and say racism isn’t an issue in America anymore.
-
This is not an event “...about honoring accomplishments and celebrating achievements.“ This is an event that promotes segregation. Isn’t that what the civil rights movement was all about? Inclusion?
#Harvard#HarvardUniversity -
I don’t see it that way, the participants don’t see it that way and Harvard doesn’t seem to see it that way. There is a difference between voluntarily joining together as a group with a common bond and separating people through laws and regulations
-
Harvard University is wrong.
-
I am sure Harvard is super interesting in your opinion. Make sure to let them know your feelings in a manner more direct than a hash tag.
