I only give to those I know or friends of friends or publicized in news or from official organization.

But on the other side of the coin, I don't know where my son would've been without the generosity of many complete strangers who donated to him after he was hit head on by a car while sitting in his livingroom.

Totally agree. When you have a lot of followers you get a lot of people asking to rt their GoFundMe page or rt something they want to spread. It's hard to know.

I've never donated through a GoFundMe page. I only donate directly to certified charities.
-
Certified charities waste money, and leave out a lot of people in need. You can't trust a lot of them. They have lavish headquarters, huge ad budgets, huge CEO salaries and benefits. Almost as bad as corporations.
-
I use Charity Navigator which gives you ratings of the different charities & How they spend their money etc..
