They were talking about cultural appropriation and yeah, I grew up watching Benny Hill who greatly exaggerated his characters but it wasn’t to discuss cultural appropriation...

And this is where things get hazy. I’m not a fan of cheap snipes on either side but there’s a difference between swinging at individuals (depends on what they did and if you’re punching up or down), a CHOSEN political ideology, and an unchosen demographic like race or gender.

A joke that had the tenet of “all people from the South are inbred” isn’t something I’d support (though white southerners still have an easier time than a lot of minorities) but swinging at gun nuts that choose their lifestyle is different.

Well if you’re already unconcerned by this depiction you’ll probably consider my next statement alarmist: but shit like this spreads. Teenagers who think of Cr*wder as a role model are gonna pull this shit on their classmates.

Actually dangerous racists are gonna see this stuff and think “wow this guy has a shit-ton of followers and thinks the same way I do, this legitimized me. And whoever wants to be the next edgelord comedian is gonna have to push things ever further than he did.

If people have to ask, what’s the joke... it isn’t comedy. Robin Williams would take the piss out of himself and you’d laugh. Crowder does a racist Chinese caricature and people are asking what the joke/punchline is.

Right, but actual Asians in Asia aren’t watching this video (except maybe to laugh at what decade the US is reverting to); it’s the Asian-Americans, who are subject to everyday racism, who get to have their heritage and appearances mocked.
