Unless it gets you an appearance on Maher or Rogan, then it doesn’t count. Those are the rules.

Why would I want to talk to either of them?

"Brigading" seems like an appropriate term?
-
We used to call it dogpiling on LJ but brigading is/was also common.

I think targeted harassment is a much better phrase with a very clear meaning and implication that has nothing to do with social justice or consequences for shitty behavior, both of which are associated with using the phrase “cancel culture”.

"Targeted harassment" does indeed do nicely, since A. that's exactly what we're talking about so the term doesn't need analysis or translation, B. it isn't a "culture" and the implication further muddles a discussion about "cancelling" that C. is already tangled beyond recovery.

I fucking WISH people would call it 'targeted harassment' Unfortunately lots of people decided that harassment and shunning are fine as long as it's decided the target is 'bad' somehow. And nobody is willing to face that, that that's what they're doing.

That's what I live through. I had a ton of people trans communities go after me because I regretted SRS. They decided that was proof that I was working with anti-trans groups and the rest just falls in line behind that

Imagine trying to get all of someone's friends to disown and dump them, and going after everyone who follows them, and getting them kicked out of every space, shaming and ruining them; imagine doing that and thinking 'What I'm doing isn't hateful or harmful but Good, Actually'
