Like, Tenet, again, was not bad But there were all these little scenes. The "including my son" thing. A bit where Protagonist is like "wait who recruited you" and his friend is like "who do you think" and then pauses and is like "it was you" That last line was so unnecessary

Like I don't hold up Avengers as a hallmark of subtlety ever but imagine if they were like "if Thanos gets the stones and wipes out half of all life, that means literally any of us or our supporting cast could die! Including Hawkeye!"

I think show don't tell is a good guideline. Perhaps complemented with, if you're going to tell, know when and how to tell. There's a lot of telling in The Terminator, exposition delivered during action sequences, and it adds to the tension rather than deflating it.

Yeah, his films always strike me as needing a more ruthless editor to make a pass through them. And agreed on Show Don’t Tell, it’s a decent guideline, even if the internet can be a bit overzealous in treating it as a cast-iron boundary
