Like, something from a fan site that got copied to another fan site and spread like an early meme, but was absolutely false? My favorite was the one that ignored the obvious etymology of "Voldemort" and instead said it came from Arthurian legend, Merlin's nemesis Voldemortist

WAY BACK WHEN, before Goblet of Fire came out, there was a rumor that Ron was going to die because of a legend (culture unspecified) where a general named Running Weasel was killed by his pet rat (who had been dyed yellow by his troops).

Book Seven introduces the rule that wizards can’t create food ex nihilo, but in an earlier book (Four?), Molly Weasley conjures an edible sauce from her wand.

Tower of Storgé. In hindsight, all the titles are adjective noun or noun of the adjective or similar. Philosopher's, Secrets, Order, etc. Azkaban had showed up earlier so they got away with a little bit of proper noun flapdoodle.

Everyone was convinced Radcliffe was losing his voice in Chamber of Secrets because it was so high pitched in Sorcerer's Stone. Which, I attribute to the mixing department trying to make him sound younger.
-
The chess scene had the same problem as Sword in the stone where there'd be line by line inconsistencies in voice.

Not as extreme as some but multiple American HP fans have told me that British people never make out in public and that Ron and Lavender snogging is therefore meant to be incredibly shocking. No idea where that comes from but for the record it's not true

-
Although it's more accurate to say that we don't usually make out in public when we're sober
