But do they violate the JENOVA Conventions?
-
Heh. Well, also, as a SOLDIER, it's unclear if Cloud has been discharged, so it's possible he and only he is guilty of war crimes for things like what's cited, but the rest of his crew wouldn't be

They constantly make that mistake and it irritates me. It’s not like there is a shortage of games where you are a soldier at time of war and therefore capable of committing war crimes but they keep picking every other game.
-
And it has direct negative impacts on real discourse by making people think things like they can call out cops for violating the Geneva Conventions with tear gas. The cops are doing crimes against humanity but a Geneva Convention prosecution would offer them iron clad defense

"But he's a SOLDIER!" "Ex-SOLDIER."
-
Of course, as that Twitter account makes clear, the Geneva Convention wouldn't even apply on a fantastical planet such as... [Remembers that the Super Nova animation makes it clear that FF7 takes place on Earth] ...oops.

The Mako released by blowing up the plants didn't seem to be dangerous to be exposed to. The game famously BEGINS with Aerith staring into a sparking mako power conduit with no thought that it would mutate her into a super soldier or monster.
-
Yeah, I think the actual mutation requires a specific process that can't be done outside of a lab.
