It is dead obvious to me that Asian countries handled the outbreak better as a significant factor because people wear masks there, *even though* they absolutely do things like take them off to eat.

Using masks at all and not burdening people with "well I might as well not bother" "best practices" would save the most lives

I mean, Japan clearly made errors and cooked some books, but their numbers are still SO FAR below ours despite having cities denser than NYC, and basically the only explanation I have for that is masks. That and having an alternative greeting besides handshakes

I’m still unsure about masks because of the whole “if there’s not enough masks they should be reserved to medical staff” it makes a lot of sense to me. But as you touched on, many asian countries have had widespread mask use for years and they didn’t run out now so...

People can wear self-made masks. They're not as effective at protecting yourself but contribute to protecting others.
