Yesterday in Wisconsin fighter jets flew a training mission over hospitals to show support for healthcare pros who have been working with limited resources to combat a virus we were unprepared for. This may be the most stereotypically American situation I could describe.

The Air National Guard is hot and ready for combat, but our nurse and doctor friends- exhausted from working and being on call for coronavirus and likely to be furloughed later this summer- are supposed to feel inspired about watching

$120mm worth of airplanes fly overhead at a cost of $24,000/hour apiece. Of course pilots need stay current, but contrasting the importance and cost of the military in the event of an air-to-surface conflict with the unpreparedness of healthcare itches my cognitive dissonance.
