A small group of children wrapped in deer hide and wool sit wide eyed, staring into the bonfire. The wood log facade of the dwellings that surround them a glow in pale orange fire light. A large ominous figure looms just outside the warm radius. A log cracks in the fire.
The figure jumps to the center of the circle. Children gasp, clutching to their mothers. The older children giggle. "Beware the "refugee!" the Elder bellows. His ceremonial Adidas shirt showing its great age against the fire light. "Beware the refugee, trespasser, the usurper."
The elder scans the pale white faces of the horrified crowd, careful to make eye contact with even the smallest child. They look up aghast at his bearded face, smeared black with charcoal.
The elder recounts the tales of the old world and its fall in the oral tradition well into the night. He parts the group by saying "Our home, our forest, our people." The group around the fire softly say in unison "Our people" as the Elder fades into evergreen boughs. The end.
