I love the 1920s home aesthetics. If I ever build a new house I might end up using 100 year old floor plans. 1/3 the cost of a modern house too. Sip*pic.twitter.com/QkdF1rXV0h

Are those the Sears catalog "build your own modular house" things?

I think so. What is depressing is the cost. $1600

        > $20,869.76 adjusted for inflation IIRC, only thing the owner needed to do was pour the foundation and assemble. It makes sense given that it's just the cost of materials they ship to you and doesn't factor in land, municipal and state licensing and certification, labor, etc.

Reminds me of those absurd tiny houses, save for being permanent fixtures and less awful price-per-square footage

I dont feel like buying a $430k house. Tiny houses are a meme. These are normal houses for low to mid price.

That was around how much it would cost to build a modern 4 bedroom, 2 bath house.

I've seen 28 acres of woods for sale in northern Idaho for just under $20k. Apple's, berries, pitted fruit does really well in the pnw. Anything that needs lots of water. Stuff that needs heat gonna be more seasonal than in Cali tho.

Early post-war houses are nice too, designed for utility and to curb the housing crisis of the mid-to-late 1940's. They stand in stark contrast to the decadence of mid-century ranch homes.

Why not go further, live in a cave, waterproof it, bring in plumbing & electricity. On the plus side you could own a lambo with the money you would have spent on other things.
