Iyanla treats all her “clients” the same. They tell her what they wanna work on, she says the most triggering things to get a reaction out of them, and then pats herself on the back for being able to reel them back in after she was the one that put them in that bad place.

Iyanla is such a bad person when it comes to those who are broken. She’s literally told her show guests she wants to break them and build them up. Iyanla is abusive.

Y’all be arguing with yourselves for the past day but I’ve checked in and I have a few thoughts: 1. What y’all go up for in iyanla as “tough love” is abuse. Real =/= Rude and there’s a way to be honest without degrading another. 2. Iyanla is sexist. She coddles men only. Bye.

You’ve got it. Healing shouldn’t be traumatic. A helper shouldn’t harm. Then all that screaming, I can’t.
-
Idk about that one . Healing can be traumatic depending on the issue . Especially when you try not to think ab things and then you have to explain it to a therapist. I do agree the screaming is not needed.
-
Therapy and counseling shouldn’t be traumatic. Retelling your story is hard and does not have to happen in one session. Forcing a person to retraumatize themselves under limited counsel is not only harmful to the person but to the process. Healing is a process not a race.
-
therapy can be traumatic depending on the situation. it’s not forced if they don’t want to do it they have the choice to leave, most of the people on her show are in denial .
-
There are different types of therapy. When dealing with a trained and licensed professional, they should not traumatize nor abuse you. Therapy is meant to confront, develop cognitive awareness, build up, process/heal while allowing the client to hold their autonomy and dignity.
-
I understand that I don’t agree with all her tactics . I said that before . It’s just you made a statement that therapy shouldn’t be traumatic and like you said humans are not cookie cutter so yes it can be traumatic for some depending on the person and situation .
-
When done properly in a timely fashion. Using proper tools and breakdown. Therapy should not traumatize anyone, shouldn’t be judging nor accusatory. Therapy is not a debate tactic, it is a life skill tool for stability, learning and teaching. A professional knows when to pull

A therapist will tell you the same. Im tired if this old school break down and build up. It is abusive and there is no continuation/follow up. Regardless of what people do, if they want to have accountability they need to be in a safe space with an effective mediator.

Iyanla doesn’t exploit people. She’s generally concerned with getting the real work and healing done. She just ain’t with the bullshit and that’s not for everybody.
-
I agree that exploit was definitely a drag and like you said it isn't for everyone. If an individual is not open enough to accept her approach she can easily come off as too forceful. It can make individuals more closed off her and then her purpose is becomes counterproductive.
-
!!!!! Exactly. Like I see it as tough love. I believe she uses those tactics because people are constantly trying excuse their toxicity. She really not with the bullshit. She doesn’t come from a place of judgment either cus she LIVED that life.
-
Yeah it's is definitely tough love because she sees through the bullshit and has so much wisdom to offer. When therapy comes into play it just all depends on the client, their needs, and the situation(s) at hand.

Jada ain’t a therapist Iyanla is trying to get ppl out of denial about what is wrong. Jada isn’t healing anyone she isn’t breaking any destructive habits, she isn’t exposing destructive ways ppl harm themselves & others. She ain’t showing ppl the reality of they ways.
