I was just having a conversation with my employee about why black immigrants think that black Americans have it so easy and I don’t think he understood how different it is to be a descendant of Slaves vs a immigrant. America is an opportunity for you but America holds us back.

I just don’t get why black immigrant people think just being American afford us all these opportunities? Can someone help me understand if I’m wrong.

I think it really comes down to people not from here not understanding that our oppression did not end with slavery. The oppression has been and continues to be rebranded. Less and less as it goes on but we are still healing.

So yes your native country might have had a war, a genocide, etc. but it was like that here in America for hundreds of years. Just because America puts it in a “pretty” package does not mean it was not horrific.

And don’t think that native black people are looking for sympathy. But it seems like NOBODY wants us to acknowledge the horrible things done to us. Not even our immigrant counterparts. Seems like everybody wants us to shut up because they think we get all these opportunities.

Black people aren’t even taught in full the deprave things our people went through. We still finding out new shit everyday. Like imagine everyday learning new shit white people did to your people. It’s sobering as fuck.

And we don’t even get reparations. Lol. Like they came over here killed off so many native Americans and their form of reparations are shit and then they killed/raped/exploited us and black Americans don’t get SHIT.
