See earlier point. He can say that he’s not trying to concentrate on race but the choices for the film are undeniable. Intent vs outcome. If it were an all black cast? He could say that à la Tyler Perry.

Aesthetic wise I knew it would be an all black family, as far as them being black and it having to do with the plot line? I don’t know.

What I’m saying is the stark contrast in film isn’t fully accepted in the industry so that choice makes it about race at an inherent level. It would be akin to him saying he “doesn’t see color”.
