I’ve been tryna get the colorism topic to talk about intraracial relationships and how the male gaze also colors the conversation within the community but we just can’t get past the part where light skinned folk have privilege they benifit from.

Women are conditioned to think of the next woman as competition. Add something in like complexion and it’s a wrap. And men really are to blame because women really think the male gaze is currency and for some it is.

Black women also date outside the race the least so this exacerbated the colorism issue because quality black men < quality black women and them being in the minority gives them “power” to give women a pecking order shaped by European beauty standards.

That’s why you have an influx of black women getting butt shots/work to compete with the white women who got butt shots in order to compete with black men over black men. Subconsciously, of course. But it’s a vicious cycle.
