Firstly that tweet is in reference in the way the colorism conversation is had on this platform AS A WHOLE. I am not a victim but it does make me sad to see that this conversation never ends with any type or education or resolution.

You’re right, there won’t be any education or resolution when dark-skinned ppl are told to be quiet, or “get over it”, or told that “it isn’t pervasive anymore” by people who have never been through it in the first place. We aren’t ASKING, we’re TELLING.

See and that’s where I cannot relate. I’ve witnessed it happen. I’ve stepped in when it was happening. I’ve done my research and armed myself with that knowledge so I understand how insidious it can be. So I don’t want silence. But what isn’t helping is how nasty it gets now.

I can’t relate to wanting silence from darker women on their experiences with colorism.

Well we both know that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen so my earlier point still stands. I get uneasy bc understanding alien experiences is not most peoples’ strongest trait.

You can not compare light/dark to dealing with aliens. And we never know all of everyone’s life experiences, parenting is a layered job in and of itself. But it is up to everyone to call it out *when* they see it and educate folk to prevent it from happening.

“Alien” as in it’s not something you’ve experienced, not actual aliens.

Ahhhh. Yet still my point stands. Just because one is different doesn’t make them inherently evil. Just as a dad raising a daughter or a mother raising a son. I get that many folk are not there to acknowledge privilege and their harmful ways but I would like people to change that

Who said anything about being evil? Most people are not empaths, that’s just the way these things go.
