Ok that’s a movie I actually enjoyed, so I’m finding it hard to understand this view. Would you care to elaborate? If not, it’s fine.
Movies that feed into stereotypes of us rather than the humanity behind them. There are so many. That nappily ever after is the most recent example of this.https://twitter.com/OkSoMik/status/1043932823818784768 …

I enjoyed the movie it wasn’t terrible, most of the movies aren’t unbearable but they lack so much nuance. Sanaa still could’ve dealt with self confidence issues in a realistic manner. The way it all went down is just so absurd. Lol

I felt like it was realistic because a lot of women don’t realize who they are until they’ve dealt with men. Some women find their self-worth in men. And in that, she found out that her mama was the issue all along. I resonated with a lot of it, so maybe I’m just bias.

I resonated with parts but we can resonate and still critique the things that seem too oversimplified. For example Beyond The Lights. It was a movie with black folk but it showed us in the same situations as other folk and still covered things like black women and our hair.
