I agree, I definitely think there has been a cultural split though. Like there are clearly still vestiges of west African beliefs in most Black churches and communities. I just think that in the North some of the folk practices have been assimilated or ignored

So like water dosing rods. Now my family in the N. Appalachian, ohio area call that old fashioned/superstition,but still do it lol. Here in KY that's just a skill, like a regular thing ppl can tell you who in their family does it & will give you their number to hire them

In central Ohio, I lived in Columbus. Areas basically outside of the App foothills, I've heard the same thing called "witchcraft," and is actually spurned by most people or laughed at as being silly old wives tales.

One yr I was in charge of designing a pastoral anniversary celebration and included a humanoid windsock into the festive stage design. Research showed kids loved it. But adults thought it to be demonic. So, I deleted it from the set.
