So I’m reading the foreword for #Barracoon ...
I can’t read this til after the weekend because apparently Zora made points. This book was shelved for nearly a century because it talked about African on African atrocities. Whew. Heavy shit.

The dehumanization of black folk beginning over in Africa really killing me. The way African folk look down on black folk like they didn’t attempt to strip us of everything we knew. Smh.

They stripped them of their home clothes and they arrived here in America naked. Naked. Black people stepped onto American soil naked & enslaved. Amazing.

Also interesting to note that they feared the water. To be honest, black peoples history with swimming & water, etc is vv much tied to our experiences coming over. Wading in the water & hoping you don’t drown. Whew.

He’s talking about how the mosquitoes were biting them up. Listen. If you haven’t been covered in mosquito bites, you really don’t know pain. Oh my god. Worst experiences ever. I’m triggered. Also this book is an easy read.
