How do you feel about lighter latinxs calling themselves black vs afro Latinx? I’m conflicted and not sure if I’m being colorist by not wanting them to use the term black. Black to me represents being visibly & identifiably black in America.

I think what bothers me personally ( I’m Afro Latina) is that I have to affirm my Latino-ness. I’m Black first, Latino second. & for a lot of Latinos who are lighter with looser curl patterns, it’d the opposite. Idk if I can validate bring Afro Latinx without certain struggles

Part of me feels bad for feeling that way but then I’m like I don’t get to take away the Afro from my Latina. It’s evident in every facet of me.

I don’t think it’s something to feel bad for because it’s pretty common for them to pick and choose when they want to be black
