I think what bothers me personally ( I’m Afro Latina) is that I have to affirm my Latino-ness. I’m Black first, Latino second. & for a lot of Latinos who are lighter with looser curl patterns, it’d the opposite. Idk if I can validate bring Afro Latinx without certain struggles

i feel like skin tone isn’t a huge factor but i need to be able to see it in your hair/facial features for me to not have a side eye lol.

Someone calling themselves Afro Latinx is usually to recognize (possible) African ancestry for some lighter skinned Latinx.

As long as they aren't black only when it's convenient I don't think it's a problem

my counter question would be do you feel the same way towards lighter biracial individuals? second, i feel Afro-Latinxs is more about ethnicity vs race so it would be both/and instead of either/or

I’ve never thought about the true difference between black & afro until this question. For me, I would have to look at when the latinx person is calling themselves black vs afro latinx. Saying you’re black often = having a certain “black” experience. In some cases, negative.
