Roach = dirty, ratchet, unrefined, ghetto, trifling, ugly, etc. Is the term hurtful? Yes. Absolutely. But it is not specifically used against darker women.

This tweet doesn’t illustrate its usage because it wouldn’t matter if a brown girl called another brown girl a roach. You can do that. If you’re trying to portray them as dirty/ratchet/etc “roach” is the way to do it.pic.twitter.com/OlxvbVBupU

This goes right back to the Cardi situation where she called other women roaches. Is it right? Hell no. Should we stop calling each other names? Absolutely. But the term speaks more on economic issues than colorism.

“Roach” falls along the same lines of terms like “fast tailed girls” “nappy hair” etc. It definitely needs to be thrown away but the way it’s being discussed is.... eh

I won’t. I stand by what I said. And that’s coming from my direct experience with the word and its usage in the black community.
-
It's deeply, deeply anti-Black. But alright.
-
It’s definitely anti and I don’t use the word.

When the Cardi thing was going on, a client I have from New York said a lot of women use that term as a normal insult with everyone no matter the color..
