…with fixed-width fonts…. Srsly, the study ONLY tried how easier the reading was with fixed-width typewriter fonts like Courier. Funny thing, that, cos the two-space originated on typewriters, and was never used for properly typeset books using proportional fonts.

Only on old fashioned typewritten documents. Typewriters do not offer the proportional spacing provided in digital typesetting. The first thing most designer do when importing a Word document into a page layout program is replace double spaces after periods with single spaces.

My publisher insisted I removed all double spacing which was hell in word which does not do search n replace in certain versions.
