The Atlantic has received a lot of attention for this, in the age of “no such thing as bad publicity,” people left and right will click to see whatever outrageous offensive thing he’s written. They definitely knew what he represents when they hired him, they’re banking on it.

Taking this on face value and assuming for a moment that it wasn't to draw in more right wing readers, this shit is why forgiveness is a little overrated. Yeah, it's nice to give second chances. It's even nicer to give an unknown their first big break.

For every celebrity there are thousands if not millions of people who could do whatever that person is doing, but can't because that person is still doing it. When they keep giving assholes second chances they are stealing those chances potential talent.

The most dangerous misconception people can have is that people like this guy are play acting. Evangelicals and the ultra-right believe every word they utter with a singular devotion that destroys lives. Do not give them the time of day let alone a column
