Without any sarcasm I really don't understand nationalists and people who want America to be great again don't care at all about well funded education. Surely a well educated population is essential for a successful, powerful nation?

I just heard a Trumper say “this thing has evolved, AND I REALLY HATE THAT WORD...” and I understood the depth of delusions that we’re dealing with.
-
It's very sad. It genuinely would be interesting to ask people like that where they think the scientists and engineers to design the weapons to Keep America Strong will come from.
-
AUTOMATION!
-
in all honesty. they want a caste system. families who can afford the cost of high quality schools/services should be allowed to w/o the burden of funding the lazy losers. that they think they are in the former grp and not the latter is the delusion of modern conservatism.

Why would anyone work for such low pay. Leave and get better work.
-
They don't have savings to up and move to another county/state..easier said than done
-
I sympathise and have empathy but If all the teachers left to work in Walmart then change would be forced upon local government. Anyway I wish them the best. Good teachers are gold
-
You just asked teachers to be sacrificial pawns.
-
Besides chaperoning every dance no parents care to attend, buying stuff for our classrooms, taking a bullet first to protect our students from intruders; you suggest we quit our livelihoods to teach people a lesson.
-
Yes, this exactly. Plus, when good teachers leave, wages don’t rise. Less qualified teachers who are willing to work for low wages take their place. I’ve seen it turn schools into literal hell. I would never quit my job and fear my students would go through those abuses.

Unfortunately as an Oklahoma teacher I can state it's all true. Oklahoma teachers qualify for food stamps and habitat for humanity house help .
-
I’m so sorry. This is disgraceful. You have the most important job of all. Why isn’t there more outrage about this ?
-
More outrage would cost money that the legislature doesn't want to come up with. It's easier for our teachers to leave than to wait for something to be done about it.

Hey, at least we have the foresight to bump up prison funding.pic.twitter.com/rXvRo3K5Ln
-
funny since education is cheaper than prisons and gets better results. so all the ppl who say "we cant afford x but need to pay for y" and then argue for fiscal responsibility are just liars or living in fantasy world.

Yes, let's let the Fed Gov't take more $ out of the public school system so parents can put their kids in private schools. Not saying it's a wholly bad idea but the system is broken - why destroy it completely & at a faster rate by doing this? Nobody has better ideas?
-
That story is unbelievable. Let’s shelf this problem until after the
#MilitaryParade that will also give the tax cuts to the 1% & businesses time to trickle down -maybe that will help the teachers & the public school system.
-
So much shit we're going to have to fix once (fingers crossed) the
#BlueWave hits.
