The world's richest 2,000 billionaires could wipe out extreme poverty with one seventh of what they gained last year. https://boingboing.net/2018/01/25/rich-get-richer.html …pic.twitter.com/0Py5IwCugG

This is why humans are done for. We can create utopia, but choose not to. 💸

It may be extreme, John, but I maintain that it IS NOT POSSIBLE for a person to amass a fortune of a billion $+ without a deficiency of virtue.

@johncusack @BoingBoing But there is no doubt that the number of deaths from famine and from the results of malnutrition were at least of the order associated with the great famines of the past.

@johncusack @BoingBoing In Southern Africa, flood years have been followed by drought years causing widespread famine and death in the region.

@johncusack @BoingBoing Every time there has been a civil war or famine in Africa the result has been a stream of human misery in the hundreds of thousands if not millions.

@johncusack @BoingBoing Faced with severe drought, lack of food security is creating conditions of famine . This disruption to farming in Zimbabwe, once the breadbasket of Southern Africa, comes as millions of people in the region face famine .

@johncusack @BoingBoing As it is, way too many people are dying of hunger , dying of poverty, dying of disease, dying of bombs - all of which are preventable. That nation is suffering famine as a result of civil war and anarchy.

There are at least $60 trillion in what amounts to the bank accounts of the rich. For $30 billion a year we could eliminate food insecurity. So there's two centuries worth of food for everyone in those bank accounts. Capitalism sucks.

Incredibly hard to wrap your head around the fact that they can yet they don't. Imagine being able to save so many lives and *still* be some of the richest ppl on the planet. How do they rationalize that?

No doubt millionaires could. But, people have to stop thinking and commenting about what people should or could do with their money. Money is a band-aid - it doesn't make the PROBLEM go away. At some point, people have to take responsibility for their own lives.
