I have to wonder how much of that is due to gun violence.

Not truly significant to the gap. Even in US, tiny fraction of pop. 1 gun death per 10,000, or 1.3% of deaths, & 2/3 of gun deaths=suicides.
-
Who was talking about deaths? Most who get shot live to have a hospital bill. Still doesn't explain that gap, though. Unregulated costs do.
-
Well early deaths pretty key part of life expectancy; orig Q didn't specify axis. But I'm even more sure gunshots tiny fraction of HC costs
-
But yes you are correct. Govt leverage on cost vs ins middle man taking a cut + much HC not denied so charge more to cover ppl who can't pay

That's part 2, and also huge. But also, on a per-procedure basis, everything costs WAY more in US than other developed countries.

But doctors are far better golf players in the US.

You can say golfers in an instance like this. And in all instances.

Diet, stress, exercise levels, etc...so many things could and probably contributing to this.
-
Yeah but Canada, or the UK for that matter, aren't that different on any of those measures. America ain't exceptional in those respects.

To be fair, I suspect the typical US diet is more to blame for early death than our health care...

Canadian here. We eat just as horribly as you do. Maybe even more horribly. http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/82-620-m/2006002/4053669-eng.htm …

Interesting,

Well aware of that chart. We have a second tier healthcare system because of its for-profit nature. Insurance is not care.
