@BoingBoing@GreatDismal A penny is a placeholder (0.0n). Without them, taxes increase 5% or 10% at a time. Pennies are the best currency -
@carolspears62 In Canada, we round to the nearest nickel on cash transactions. Sometimes you overpay by a cent or two, sometimes under. -
@smiteri In MI USA we had a 4% sales tax which increased to 6%. Without a penny, the govt would have to increase to 10% as 6% is impossible. -
@carolspears62 We apply the taxes & round to the nearest nickel on the total, so the sales tax could be 5.3841101% if you wanted. -
