.@BoingBoing or for the TL;DR inclined, to quote the inimitable @wilw: "Don't Be A Dick"

.
@llance@BoingBoing "Don't be a dick" only works if everyone agrees what being a dick means. In lieu of that, we need explicit policies. -
@leftoblique@BoingBoing The trouble with explicit policies is, they are never sufficiently exhaustive. -
@llance@BoingBoing sure I suppose in the formal logic sense but we can at least name bad behaviors and protected classes of people. -
@llance@BoingBoing also I'm not convinced that a policy can't be exhaustive enough for the practical purpose of creating a safe con space. -
@leftoblique@BoingBoing It may define a safe space, but create one? Doubtful. The people it's aimed at probably don't understand it. -
@llance@BoingBoing which is why you define, in plain English, what is and is not acceptable. Which they've done. -
@leftoblique@BoingBoing Which is fine if they understand plain English. - 7 more replies

@BoingBoing@adorabillie It's sad that it has to be spelt out in such detail rather than just a simple DON'T BE A DICK sign...Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@BoingBoing This is both very good and very sad. What I used to tell my kids about the playground: you need to look out for others.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@TexCub@BoingBoing I'm never quite sure but I believe genitals are either involved or at risk.
