I automatically stop reading when I see any wording of, 'The Civil War was fought over slavery.' 1. America didn't have a civil war. There was a war fought between the USA and the CSA. 2. The war was not fought over slavery. The CSA did, indeed, separate mostly over slavery.

Independence wasn't won against the mightiest super power of that age with a thin 51% majority. I suspect the function of a 2/3rds majority in the Senate is to ensure that "We the People" keep our unity as we move forward. We have to move beyond "us" vs. "them" to be the "US".
