I actually think this is false. As far as I understand it, A lot of hand sanitizers were believed to basically collapse the cell wall. People didn’t really think an adaptation that big could occur.

That is, alcohol based sanitizers at least. The New Scientist article was much more informative. And I believe enough alcohol still does the trick
