I recently discovered that if you don’t rent their equipment xfinity tech support will refuse to help you, claiming that since it’s not their equipment that they can’t guarantee that their service will work well for you.

If you are stuck with comcast and no other cable/DSL options that really sucks. They are a miserable company to interact with.

Who uses cable TV set top boxes? Are they living in some 1990s remote village without internet streaming video? And who rents modems? They are cheap to buy, and the math of owning relative to renting them is pretty obvious....
