    5. Should we remain humble and open minded as we learn more about this virus? Indeed we should.

    4. -Are people not sick enough to seek medical care ("subclinical") but still symptomatic contributing to disease transmission, as in this case? Also very likely.

    3. -Can the virus be transmitted to others from a truly asymptomatic person? Maybe...probably. -Are symptomatic people far more likely to be driving the epidemic? Most certainly yes.

    2. So was the patient who was reported to be asymptomatic truly asymptomatic when she transmitted infection to others? "...she felt tired, suffered from muscle pain, and took paracetamol, a fever-lowering medication." That is not asymptomatic

    1. More on what "asymptomatic" really means, especially in the context of the novel and disease transmission. This is in regards to the high-profile case in that reported asymptomatic transmission. An excellent read here:

That top post is not meant to be overly alarmist - it is just to demonstrate the diversity of thought in how this epidemic is unfolding from people who know a lot about epidemics. I am glad there are open and transparent discussions rather than muted dialogue.

I still think it is too early to know how successful China's control efforts will be, and we will see what case counts are in the coming days/weeks, plus keep a close eye on exported cases from China. Some secondary transmission outside China now, but not much.

On the novel : “It’s very, very transmissible, and it almost certainly is going to be a pandemic,” said Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. “But will it be catastrophic? I don’t know.”

Medical experts raise concerns about Indonesia's ability to detect novel coronavirus. The reagents - chemicals used in specific testing kits to identify the Wuhan, or novel, coronavirus - are not yet in the country. They'll arrive in next few days
