There is no place in America where someone working full time & making the $7.25 federal minimum wage can make ends meet. Today, House & Senate Democrats are introducing the #RaiseTheWage Act to give roughly 40 million workers a raise.

Many Americans are working too hard for too little.
Today, Democrats take action #ForThePeople.
The House is taking up the #PROAct, a bold proposal to protect workers’ ability to stand together to negotiate for higher wages, better benefits, & safer working conditions.
Republicans have already voted twice this year to defund the police. They all voted against the American Rescue Plan which contained critical funds for states & localities to fund emergency services, and they also voted against the Capitol Hill security supplemental spending bill
The “Defund the Police” campaign—endorsed by Democrats—has decimated our law enforcement, pushed them to leave their profession, and in some cases have even put a target on their backs.
When Republicans are in the majority, we will FUND the police. https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1LyxBddpwEMGN…
After more than 10 years without an increase in the federal minimum wage, Democrats will vote today to pass the #RaiseTheWage Act to:
✅Gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2025
✅Give up to 33 million Americans a raise
✅Lift at least 1.3 million Americans out of poverty
Without significant federal funding like that provided in the #HeroesAct, most schools can't afford the safety measures needed to protect students, staff & their families. We must work together to reach an agreement that gives schools the resources they need to safely reopen.

The last time unemployment claims were this low, the American people were being introduced to the Brady Bunch.
The Biden-Harris economic agenda is getting people back to work.
New: Weekly claims for unemployment benefits dropped to a new multi-decade low last week, the Labor Department reports. At 184,000 claims, it was the lowest level of initial claims since September 1969.
I am very proud to re-introduce the #DoNoHarm Act with @RepJoeKennedy and @SenKamalaHarris. No one should be able to use religious beliefs as grounds to discriminate, undermine Civil Rights Act protections, or limit access to health care.
Thank you @RepJoeKennedy, @BobbyScott and @SenKamalaHarris for reintroducing the #DoNoHarm Act!
This would protect the #LGBTQ community, religious minorities & access to reproductive healthcare.
for her swearing-in. She made history as the first Black woman elected to Congress from Virginia and I know she will keep making history as a champion for her constituents.
I was horrified when I viewed the recently released video footage of the police treatment of Caron Nazario, a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army. This should have been a routine traffic stop and the video speaks for itself.
A question for all members of Congress: Should a president be allowed to publicly ask foreign governments to interfere in America’s presidential elections?
We had a great discussion about advancing the Build Back Better Agenda with bold investments in higher education, child care, workforce development, school construction, paid leave and other important initiatives.
Today, I spoke with House Democratic Leadership and Committee Chairs about moving the Build Back Better Agenda forward. We know folks can’t afford to wait for the generational benefits the plans will deliver — and we’re committed to getting it done for the American people.
I am thrilled that Congress finally passed the Juvenile Justice Reform Act. This is the culmination of a multi-year, bipartisan effort to improve our juvenile justice system. https://go.usa.gov/xEqty

Yesterday, the House passed my bill, the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act, to ensure older workers finally achieve justice for workplace discrimination. #JusticeforWorkers
Watch my remarks here:
The American Rescue Plan has boosted vaccinations across the country and Virginians are doing their part. If we keep making progress, we can finally put this pandemic behind us. Virginians can get vaccinated at http://Vaccinate.Virginia.gov

The recovery of our labor market did not happen by accident.
It is a direct result of the investments made by the Biden-Harris Administration and Congressional Democrats.
Today’s jobs report shows that the economy added 528,000 jobs in July.
More people are working than at any point in American history. That’s no accident, it’s results.
. Throughout her distinguished career, she has stood up for vulnerable workers, championed labor rights, and improved the lives of workers and families across CA.
talk about how far we’ve come in one year.
Fastest economic growth since 1984.
A record 6.6M jobs created.
Over 215M Americans vaccinated.
And discussion of what we can do to further invest in jobs and cut costs for families.
Inflation is a global problem caused by supply chain issues caused by the pandemic. The Biden Admin has been working to unclog supply chains & bring down gas costs. And the #BuildBackBetter Act will cut taxes & costs for working families.
The GOP has no real plan to address it.
Rs have been hammering Biden over inflation, but they’ve faced criticism for not offering a solution.
GOP senators today intro’d a bill that would bar all legislation “that would be estimated to increase inflation until the year-over-year inflation rate drops below 4.5 percent”
President Biden’s first year in office marked the:
Best year of job growth in American history.
Biggest one-year drop in unemployment in history.
Greatest year of economic growth in decades.
The strength of the US labor market is on display again this week.
The 4-wk avg of initial UI claims is now 6K below pre-pandemic levels. Overall insured unemployment is at its lowest since Feb 1970.
Easy to take for granted, but this outcome was far from guaranteed 1 yr ago.
The #BidenBudget is a blueprint for expanding opportunity and strengthening our economy. It proposes smart, significant investments in education, child care, health care, workforce training, and other key priorities that would improve the lives of Americans across the country.
Today, I released my budget for the upcoming fiscal year. It builds on the progress we’ve made over the last few months and makes historic investments that will help our nation build back better for decades to come. Read more here: https://whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/
Three weeks ago, I announced we would have enough vaccine supply for all Americans by the end of July.
Now, with our efforts to ramp up production, we will have enough vaccines for every American by the end of May.
Everyone agrees we want kids back in school. Today, Democrats are doing what it takes to make that happen.
The #AmericanRescuePlan will help schools re-open safely, protect students and staff, and make up for lost classroom time.
NEW: 19 national education groups wrote to Congressional leadership expressing support for the #AmericanRescuePlan, which would provide $128 BILLION to help school districts reopen safely, protect students and staff, and make up for lost classroom time.

This is me in 2009, when the federal minimum wage increased to $7.25.
This is me today. The federal minimum wage is still $7.25.

I applaud the Biden Admin for taking another critical step to support defrauded student borrowers of for-profit schools.
This relief is long overdue. Many of these borrowers filed discharge claims years ago, yet the previous administration refused to grant them relief.
Good news! @USEDgov just announced it will discharge student loans for nearly *16,000 borrowers* who were defrauded by for-profit institutions.
Predatory schools must be held accountable to protect students, families, and taxpayers. twitter.com/NPRCoryTurner/…
President Biden: "We know that our kids can be safe when in school. That's why I believe schools should remain open. They have what they need, because in the American Rescue Plan, [...] we provided the states with $130 billion to specifically keep our students safe."
The United States is the richest country in the world, but millions of Americans still can’t afford health care. Every person has the right to health care – regardless of their income. That’s why I’m joining
The key difference is that the American Rescue Plan has generated a world-beating economic recovery for the US, allowing us to face this global challenge from a unique position of strength.

passed the #AmericaCOMPETESAct to fight inflation by promoting domestic innovation and manufacturing.
Congressional Republicans have NO plan to address inflation.
Inflation is a global problem, President Biden didn't cause inflation in Brazil, Japan, Europe, etc. Republicans are ecstatic about inflation and voting against our solutions while offering none of their own.
We are working with @POTUS to actually solve this and help people.
This verdict is a start, but it does not absolve Congress and the federal government of our responsibility to reform policing across the country, and it is a reminder of the need for the Senate to pass the George Floyd #JusticeInPolicingAct.
to investigate the police treatment of Donovon Lynch & 2nd Lt Caron Nazario. We deserve transparency, accountability, and most of all, the truth about these incidents. https://go.usa.gov/xHWD9
blocking the Paycheck Fairness Act is an insult to the millions of women who are doing the same job as their male counterparts for lower pay. This is further evidence that the U.S. Senate is no longer a functioning legislative body.
The release of this video also comes while the Hampton Roads community is still mourning the loss of Donovan Lynch who was killed by officers while their body worn cameras were not activated. Both of these instances should be investigated by federal authorities.
The Supreme Court ruling on #SB8 jeopardizes the health and safety of women all over the country and opens the door to further abortion restrictions in other states. Congress must enact
The American Rescue Plan is working. Now we must continue our work to #BuildBackBetter and enact the American Jobs Plan and the American Families Plan.
