The hope would be that more focus was put on modern sonic to actually make the game good by doing this. Who knows how that would truly turn out though.
That sounds like it would overcomplicate things in a game that already needs a lot more focus on it's core mechanics

That's a fair assessment. I felt like the controls needed a lot of changes. Drifting being removed was a stupid move. The quickstep also didn't always register either. Overall I wanted a modern sonic game like generations, just without classic sonic. That's sadly not what we got.

What I initially meant was due to their interest in having customization. Something like Sonic swapping to SA2 shoes for an ability (5 rings for enemy kills) would be a preferred usage of time instead of on these different play styles. However I'd still rather have more levels.
